Measles Outbreak

From 1 January to 30 September 2023, there have been 149 laboratory tests confirmed measles cases in England. These are cases confirmed through either local or reference laboratory testing

Measles is caused by a virus that spreads very easily. One case of measles can infect 9 out of 10 of unvaccinated close contacts

It is transmitted through the respiratory route (airborne or droplet spread) or by direct contact with the nasal or throat secretions of infected persons

Incubation period: 10 to 12 days from exposure to onset of symptoms, but can vary from 7 to 21 days

Infectious period: 4 days before onset of rash to 4 days after onset of rash

We therefore kindly request all parents to ensure their children are immunised against MMR

Mental Health Support for Children

Young Harrow Foundation, HOPE and CAAS, the Centre for ADHD and Autism Support have created a service offer to support parents of children and young people on a CAHMS waiting list. The group meets monthly and the aim is to learn strategies to better support their child’s mental health needs and receive guidance on how to navigate the CAMHS waiting list and other resources available in the community.

The group meets in the evening, on the last Tuesday of the month, either face to face at a venue in Harrow or on Zoom. When you sign up for any of the online meetings, you will receive the link to join a few days before each meeting. The service is also offering 1:1 support with translation services available if needed, themed workshops and courses on ‘Understanding Autism and Living with ADHD’
